Malaysian Bat Education Adventure

Meet The Bats

In Peninsular Malaysia, there are at least 118 species of bats, that’s out of a world total of more than 1116 species! So Peninsular Malaysia has over 10% of all the world’s bat species. WOW!

We know that there are at least 71 species recorded for Krau Wildlife Reserve, and about 62 of those species are known from this year’s study site, Kuala Lompat. However, we are focusing on the insectivorous bats that forage in the forest understory, and that leaves us a group of about 25 species. The most common 20 species are the ones we expect to catch this year.

To learn more about these species, click on the links below. Start with reading about the family your species belongs to, before you move on to your species. You will find written information, photos and video clips. For some species there may not be a great deal of information, that’s because we still don’t know much about them!!
